Curse the tin of Quality Street for being so close at hand,
Curse the bugger who keeps leaving the wrappers in the tin,
And curse ME for being such a weak willed gluttonous lardy arse!
I know I am not the only one who does it.
You’re chillin’ out on the settee, maybe a repeat of the Morecambe and Wise show on telly, the Christmas tree twinkling away to itself in the corner, the kids enjoying Father Christmas’s recently delivered parcels and the hubby snoring away contentedly after the huge Christmas dinner.
Someone, because it’s never you, has bought the tin of Quality Street into the living room or sometimes it just appears down by the side of the sofa. Just in reach, it sits there all nice and shiny and full of the delicious sweet stuff in fancy coloured wrapping. Enticing you, luring you, playing on that tiny little crack of weakness in your resolve. It patiently waits for that first time your hand falls in to the trap of chocolates, only then does it know it’s got you!
If only then the tin lid would slam itself shut to not open until next Christmas it would be ok! But no, the lid disappears and leaves all those lovely choccies just lying there, waiting to be unwrapped and shoved in one’s gob!
And it just knows that you will keep on putting your hand in and grabbing your favourites until you are left only with the round toffee ones that always get left. They’ll still be there come next year, when you’re clearing the cupboards ready for next years Christmas hoard and maybe then you might just have one or two.
Joking aside (and apologies for trying to lay the blame on the choccies!) but………
Why, oh why, do I have to be such a weak willed lardy when it comes to chocolate?
Why, at Christmas do some of us let ourselves go to the extent where we spend the first month of the year regretting that extra chocolate or two?
Thankfully, I have my cycling and an Audax in February to focus on, so I know I need to get the miles in.
Maybe next Christmas I can summon up the will power to not be so gluttonous? Or maybe not, it’s only once a year isn’t it? Just as long as that once a year doesn’t become ‘throughout’ the year I’ll be fine
Happy New Year everyone!!!
